Kol Chai Bereavement Support Group

What to do when someone dies
In the event of the death of a relative or close friend:
Ring the Joint Jewish Burial Society on 0208 989 5252 – this operates out of hours too.
Contact Kol Chai Community office on 0208 421 5482 – if it’s out of hours, the answerphone message will direct you to volunteers who can help you.
Rabbi Naomi Goldman on 07947 414514
JJBS will arrange to collect the deceased and will arrange for burial at our cemetery in Cheshunt, co-ordinating with the Rabbi, who you can also ring direct. .
You will need to get a death certificate from the hospital or doctor.  Once the death certificate has been issued, it must be taken to the Registrar for deaths in the borough in which the person died.  The Registrar will issue a green certificate giving permission for burial to take place. The JJBS can talk you through this whole process.

The Bereavement Support Group was established to provide confidential support to those members of our community who have suffered the death of a close family member. All bereaved members will usually be contacted by the group four to six weeks after the bereavement, and continued support by telephone or visits will be arranged for as long as is wished or is beneficial to the bereaved member.

All the members of our group have had an initial training by the charity, Bereavement Care, and follow its Code of Practice and Ethics. In addition, everyone continues to develop their skills by attending at least two workshops or conferences each year. We meet every six weeks for continued training and supervision.

If you would like to know more about our group, whether for support or with an interest in joining us, please email us on bereavementgroup@kolchai.org.
