Kol Chai Synagogue High Holydays with a difference

at home, online, at your fingertips.

This year, Kol Chai’s High Holyday Services will be held online. Since the onset of ‘Lockdown’, Kol Chai has successfully been holding services and other communal activities using on-line technology and many members will already be familiar with our services on Zoom.

For the High Holydays, we are preparing a programme of on-line services and activities that we hope all members will be able to engage in; a schedule of those is available in this Diary. These cover Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, Yom Kippur and Sukkot services. Full High Holyday Dates and Times are available here.

Everyone for whom Kol Chai has an email address should have received registration application forms in their inbox, or will in the next few days. If you haven’t received this please contact the Office and we’ll send another one through. We’re asking people to register so that we can properly plan for our various services and activities and, importantly, for security purposes. Kol Chai takes online security very seriously and to date we haven’t had any issues in that respect.

This year we have some new challenges in terms of enabling our members to take part in our services and activities.

Prayer books (Machzorim)

We are setting up a system whereby we will deliver prayer books or make them available for collection so that everyone will be able to follow our services from the comfort of their own home; this is dealt with in the registration forms.

Access to services and activities

All our services and activities will be accessible via the Zoom platform. You will need to register to gain access to the services. The registration link is on the High Holydays Dates and Times 2020 on this website.

Some of the services will be in a webinar format, which means it won’t be interactive. Some, however, will be interactive in the way our Shabbat services and other activities have been to date. All this will be made clear when you have registered for the services.

We are also acutely aware that some Kol Chai members either do not have the equipment with which to access Zoom and some may need assistance in connecting. We are building a team to assist with this, so please contact the Office if you need help in this area.

We look forward to welcoming all Kol Chai members, together with their families and guests, to our High Holyday Services and activities, this year brought to you in your own home.
