Welcome to our High Holy Day Appeal 2021!
The very worthy charities KC are supporting this year have both been nominated by members of the community and in this year, more than most, need our support.
Let’s make it a record year for KC Giving!
- Jewish Women’s Aid (JWA)
- Firm Foundation
More details about our chosen charities and their websites are included below, but PLEASE donate via this page, not directly to the charity, otherwise we will not be able to acknowledge your donation or include it in our final total.
Thank you for your generosity
1. Jewish Women’s Aid
Web: Jewish Women’s Aid (jwa.org.uk)
One woman in four will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime.
One woman in five will experience sexual assault in her lifetime.
All women are affected, regardless of age, education, class, lifestyle or religion
Unfortunately, the Jewish community is no different.
Jewish Women’s Aid is the only specialist organisation in the UK supporting Jewish women and children affected by domestic abuse & sexual violence.
The charity directly supports over 600 women each year who need their help and on top of this also provides educational programmes for schools and work with communal organisation project to address sexual harassment in Jewish workplaces
Over lockdown, JWAs services have been stretched to their limit and so the charity is now looking to raise £200,000 to increase the size of its team, build education programmes, specifically to reach more younger people.
Please donate to help create a safer future for our community
2. Firm Foundation
There are over 10,000 homeless people in London including 100s in Harrow
Firm Foundation is a local charity which offers supported accommodation to rough sleepers in Harrow. Donations will support Grace House, their latest and second property: This provides an opportunity to move from the streets into a secure and safe environment, receive appropriate support and help to be ready to move onto independent living.
Each guest is offered support to establish benefits, appropriate services, access to a GP and help finding accommodation.
Every person’s circumstances are different and Firm Foundation work creatively and imaginatively to give each person the best opportunity to live independently for the long term.
The charity was originally setup by local churches but now several synagogues are involved too and for several years teams of around 8 Kol Chai members and friends have supported the Night Shelter, providing a hot meal, company (chatting to the guests and playing board games), takeaway snacks and volunteering to sleep in the men’s and women’s dormitories overnight to help the Firm Foundation staff members.
Several of our members can be seen doing good work with the charity here
This is a good opportunity to support an important local charity, knowing that your donation will make a big difference
