Rabbi Dr. Michael Hilton

I served as Rabbi of Kol Chai from 2001- 2017, and since then have had the honorary title of Rabbi Emeritus of the community. My current activities include:

  • I help Kol Chai’s participation in Harrow Citizens, especially with the Mental Health Action team
  • As the longest serving member of Oxford Three Faiths’ team, I help to organise our occasional residential and online interfaith conferences alongside Christians and Muslims
  • As Scholar in Residence at the Liberal Jewish Synagogue, I teach on adult education courses, often alongside Christian or Muslim speakers
  • As a lecturer at Leo Baeck College Lehrhaus, which is their adult education programme open to all, I teach small classes of students learning Classical Greek, including complete beginners interested in exploring the rich heritage of Jewish Literature in Greek.
  • I actively pursue my own studies in Classical Arabic and Judeo-Arabic (which is Arabic written with Hebrew letters).
  • My current main research interest is in the influence of Islam on Judaism.
