Kol Chai - a community focused on people - a message from our Chairman

Kol Chai means a living voice … of Reform Judaism. We are rooted in tradition but alive to the ever-changing modern world. We call ourselves a Community because we are more than a synagogue. Our focus is on people, both when we come together and as individuals – in times of celebration and when support is required.

We want everyone to feel included – young or old, observant or secular, active or less so, singles and couples, including members with non-Jewish partners. Our Shabbat and festival services held in our modern synagogue premises are varied, inclusive and participatory. We offer a warm welcome to members and visitors.

Our highly successful Religion School has been recognised with a silver quality award.  It offers excellent Jewish religious education, Hebrew reading classes based on one to one tuition and lots of fun activities. So learning is both effective and enjoyable and provides excellent preparation for Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Jewish Studies GCSE and then assisting on the teaching side. We have a lively youth club and many of our older children enthusiastically acquire leadership skills at RSY Netzer camps. For adults we offer a varied adult education programme and a conversion to Judaism course.

Our silver anniversary fell towards the end of 2011 but we are not standing still. We are reinvigorating all aspects of Community life. On top of our established activities, such as Bridge, Table Tennis, Israeli Dancing and Film Club, there are new and thriving initiatives, including a Walking Group and a Business Club.

Members come from a wide area around north and west London including: Hatch End, Pinner, Harrow, Stanmore, Northwood, Rickmansworth, Watford, Bushey, Edgware and Hendon. If you would like to join a Reform synagogue which is also a warm and friendly Jewish community and wish to find out more, please send me an email, phone the office or visit the Membership page.

I look forward to welcoming you to Kol Chai.

Peter Gartenberg
