Education at Kol Chai
Education is one of the core elements of Kol Chai and runs through much of what we do. Through the year we offer a wide range of educational activities for all ages and at all levels. Our association with the Learning Circle widens our offer to include activities held at Radlet & Bushey, Elstree & Boreham Wood and St Albans.

Pre School
Once a month on Sunday mornings Kol Chai offers a ‘Family Activity’ for pre-school children and their parents. The activity, which usually involves some songs; arts & crafts; stories; and games is always fun and well supported.

Religion School (School Years Reception – Yr 8)
Kol Chai has a vibrant Religion School for children aged 4 – 13 (school years Reception to Yr 8). Kol Chai is a community and our Religion School reflects that. At Kol Chai we believe if children enjoy attending Religion School then they will want to learn and in future years retain fond memories of their days there.

Post B’nei Mitzvah
The Post B’nei Miyzvah programme at Kol Chai offers both a GCSE course in Jewish Studies and an accredited Teaching Assistants course. In September 2004, more than ¾ of our teenagers returned after their b’nei mitzvah year to take part in our Post B’nei Mitzvah programme. Many of our teenagers remain involved with the community as teaching assistants and then as teachers for several years.

Adult Education
Throughout the year at Kol Chai we offer a range of educational activities. During 2004-5 we are offering a textual study course; a series of topical guest speakers; a Hebrew learning weekend; Torah breakfast sessions and a Torah leining (chanting) course. We are also members of the Learning Circle, an educational partnership with St Albans (Masorti); Radlet & Bushey (Reform); and Elstree & Boreham Wood (Liberal).

Kol Chai baby Sitting Course
This year Kol Chai ran its first baby-sitting course for teenagers. The course was run over two afternoons and covered topics such as basic first aid; keeping safe; and allergy awareness. The course will run again in early September and is aimed at 14-16 year-olds.
