Kol Chai’s Religion School
At Kol Chai our Religion School is an integral part of our community. We do not see it as merely a place where children learn to read Hebrew and acquire some Jewish knowledge. Our Religion School is a part of our community and as such we aim to help our children gain a positive, life long commitment towards their Jewish heritage.

The Children make Jewish friends, are shown positive Jewish teenage role models, are involved in synagogue activities and are encouraged to join in activities taking place in the wider Jewish world.
Fundamental to our Religion School is our ethos of ‘enjoying being Jewish’. If our children enjoy coming to Religion School then they will learn and want to take an active part in our activities.
Religion School at Kol Chai does not end with a bar or bat mitzvah, 75% of our B’nei Mitzvah return to take part in our Post B’nei Miztvah programme. In addition, more students from other communities join Kol Chai in their own right as Associate Student Members in order to join the programme. We like to think that says something about Kol Chai.

Staffing
We can currently say the following about the staff at our religion School: all of them are trained and all of them are members of Kol Chai. That our teachers are members of the community we believe contributes to the high level of commitment to our children’s Jewish education. In addition, our Teaching Assistant’s have all undertaken our Teaching Assistants Training Programme, a full academic year training course that is recognised by the Leo Baeck College Centre for Jewish Education and which they distribute to other Communities on our behalf.

Syllabus
The syllabus at Kol Chai’s Religion School has been carefully designed to progress through the years, being targeted at each stage to the age of the children. However, whilst we do cover a wide range of Jewish topics, including the festivals, the key stages in life and key events in Jewish history, we never forget our key goal – to instil in our children a positive feeling about being Jewish.
