chairman

Robert Braham

Robert joined Kol Chai in 1989 and in the intervening 26 years has been involved in many aspects of the Community. Robert has served as Chair of the Education Committee, the Social Committee and, more recently, the Ritual Committee. He has taught at our Religion School since 1990, much of that time teaching the GCSE in Religious Studies. Alongside these activities, Robert was also responsible for many of our past productions – Cinderella; The Old Time Music Hall; and Fiddler on the Roof, amongst others.

This is Robert's second term as Chairman, having first served way back in 1996-1998. So what drives Robert's involvement in all things 'Kol Chai'? His answer is he doesn't really know! Kol Chai's informal and inclusive approach to almost everything appealed to Robert and his wife Reva right away. 'It's always been a caring and welcoming community', he says, 'and anyone who wants to get involved with anything can do so. The only criterion is that they want to!'

During the week, Robert is a Chartered Surveyor working for the NHS. His wife Reva, an HR professional, also serves on the Social Committee and Ritual Committee. Their children are David, who is studying medicine at university and Ilana, currently studying for A' Levels.
